Collages
My collages are a visual diary and interpretation of the poetic narrative in my head. Ranging from surreal to chaotic, they are a dreamy and vulnerable expression of my thoughts and observations of the world. My goal is to build narratives that are both playful and uncomfortable, inviting the viewer to stare a beat longer at works that feel slightly too intimate.
My work explores themes of yearning, mental health, femininity, objectification, and relationships. Occasionally they are inspired by a specific bit of text that I write or a story that I hear; sometimes they are a processing of a conversation or a moment in time. They are ultimately a step in my journey towards better self understanding.
My medium is inspired by New York and other cities I visit. The street art and walls tell a story of the transient art that is constantly changing with every tag, poster, and attempt to cover it all with a fresh coat of paint, only to be peeled away to reveal what’s beneath. This process feels similar to the layers each of us carry, the moments and changes that are layered to create who we are. I try to replicate this in my work, adding layer upon layer of paper and paint, tearing it apart and adding more scraps to create a rich composition. I let my creative process flow organically in whatever way feels right.
